Roscoe and Horkey Farms Inc

Roscoe and Horkey Farms started in the late 1960's when George Horkey Sr.'s son married Murl Roscoe's daughter. The two vegetable farming families began working closely together and within a few years merged to form Roscoe and Horkey Farms. At the time we grew potatoes, cabbage, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries, melons, and corn. We sold our crops at the Detroit Eastern Farmers Market. 

By the early 1990's other area farmers were coming to Roscoe and Horkey Farms for help selling their produce. Over the next 20 years we developed and ran a produce distribution business for locally grown produce on the Eastern Market. The business grew, and eventually we were selling more produce grown on other farms than on our own, exceeding the capacity that the Eastern Market had to offer.

 In 2011 we bought out Metro Produce, located across Russel Street from the Detroit Eastern Farmers Market. This provided the space and equipment needed to continue to grow and develop our distribution of local produce in the summer and fall months, but also expand into the sales and distribution of produce shipped in throughout the year. 

Today, Roscoe and Horkey Farms operates 12 months a year, offering over 60 different varieties of fruits and vegetables packaged in multiple ways. Our customers include chain stores, distributors, processors, brokers, farm stands, restaurants, and churches. Locally grown produce is handled whenever possible; much of it raised on our own farm. We also have strong relationships with growers and shippers from across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

We continue to farm through our sister company, Horkey Brother Farms, in Dundee, Michigan. We raise potatoes, sweet corn, peppers, cabbage, pumpkins, and hard shell squash.
