AND PUBLIC CELEBRATION FOR MILESTONE ANNIVERSARY

Nourishing a healthier, wealthier and happier Detroit

Gala proceeds benefit Eastern Market’s mission to improve access to fresh food, support work to incubate and accelerate the development of food entrepreneurs and enhance the experience of the public market.

125th Anniversary Gala features a five course menu created by Chefs Andy Hollyday of Selden Standard and Dave Mancini of Supino and La Rondinella

DETROIT – Eastern Market Corporation (EMC), the nonprofit organization that operates historic Eastern Market, will celebrate its 125th anniversary with an epicurean tour of Eastern Market’s local harvest and a public celebration during the popular Saturday Market. Co-chaired by three Eastern Market heritage families – the Bonahoom, Germack and Grobbel families – the ultimate farm to fork feast event, the 125th Anniversary Gala, will take place Friday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. in Eastern Market’s Shed 3. The 125th Anniversary Celebration, a free public event open to all, will occur Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Eastern Market’s DTE Energy Plaza, just outside Shed 5 along Russell Street.

At the 125th Anniversary Gala, taste buds will be captivated by the menu created by Chefs Andy Hollyday of Selden Standard and Dave Mancini of Eastern Market’s Supino and La Rondinella. The locally sourced and grown five-course meal will be prepared in partnership with Henry Ford College’s Culinary Arts team. Meanwhile Mark Randisi and the Motor City Horns will add classic big band sounds to a most magical evening.

Proceeds from the 125th Anniversary Gala benefit Eastern Market’s mission to improve access to healthy, fresh food, support work to incubate and accelerate the development of food entrepreneurs and enhance the experience of Eastern Market for shoppers and guests.

The free public event, the 125th Anniversary Celebration, will feature fun for the entire family throughout the Saturday Market. Guests will get to experience historic Eastern Market, while enjoying free walking tours provided by the Detroit Experience Factory at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., a Scavenger Hunt ending at the Welcome Center or Barrel Train rides for children. In addition to these activities, guests will be entertained by the Detroit Edison Public School Academy drum line, fire eaters and stilt walkers. Free giveaway gifts will be available while supplies last.

“Our 125th anniversary provides an excellent opportunity to reinforce EMC’s important work to improve food access and foster the creation and growth of food businesses,” said Dan Carmody, President of EMC. “Since 1891, Eastern market has been nourishing the community to support a healthier, wealthier and happier Detroit. While most Metro Detroiters know about our spectacular Saturday Market, these celebratory events are a chance to spotlight our other programs, which improve the health of area residents and expand the local economy.”

Patron tickets for the 125th Anniversary Gala are $250 each, and Benefactor tickets are $500. Tables of 10 are available for purchase.
