Eastern Market Partnership (EMP) is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that manages and promotes Eastern Market on behalf of the City of Detroit. EMP is looking for a team member to provide operational support to the food assistance programs at Eastern Market on Tuesdays, Saturdays & Sundays. A core component to increasing people’s access to healthy food includes facilitating food assistance programs that allow eligible recipients to purchase food at the Eastern Market.

Responsibilities

The list below highlights some of the responsibilities. This individual may perform other duties necessary for the successful operation of the organization.

  • Operate the EBT and Double Up Food Bucks token exchange including dispensing tokens to customers and redeeming tokens for vendors on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Operate the distribution and redemption of produce prescription vouchers.
  • Accurately track the necessary data for all transactions in excel.
  • Deliver excellent service to both internal and external customers, exhibit a positive attitude and enthusiasm toward the job and company, particularly with customers and vendors during peak times.
  • Keep the locations clean and inviting for shoppers and vendors
  • Become familiar with general market operations and district business locations to be able to answer visitor questions
Qualifications
  • Saturday availability
  • Interest in providing quality customer service to a diverse customer base
  • Dependable & responsible, outgoing & enthusiastic
  • High level of organizational multitasking skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented and the ability to think on your feet
  • Physically able to set up equipment, stand/walk during shifts and carry 50lbs
  • Basic math literacy and cash handling skills
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
Compensation
  • Hourly rate of $16.00/hour
  • This is a part-time position, 8-10 hours/week
  • Vacation, health insurance and retirement are not available.
