Detroit Community Markets

Nourishing Detroit

Detroit Community Markets are neighborhood locations where you can buy fresh, affordable, locally produced food. This includes farmer’s markets, farm stands, and food box programs!

We strive to increase access to healthy foods, improve neighborhoods, support local growers and entrepreneurs, and create public spaces where residents can come together.

Urban Growing Programs

Keep Growing Detroit

Keep Growing Detroit (KGD) promotes a food sovereign city where Detroiters’ fruits and vegetables are grown by residents within the city’s limits. Keep Growing Detroit helps beginner gardeners become engaged community leaders and food entrepreneurs, addresses the immediate needs of their communities, and promotes sustainable change in our food system. Learn more at their website!

Earthworks Urban Farm

The Capuchin Soup Kitchen’s Earthworks Urban Farm is a 2.5 acre certified organic farm that seeks to build a just, beautiful food system through education, inspiration, and community development. As a working study in both social justice and knowing the origins of our food, Earthworks works to restore our connection to the environment and community. Learn more at their website!

The Greening of Detroit

The Greening of Detroit sets its focus on enhancing the quality of life for Detroiters by repurposing the land to create beautiful and productive green spaces. We involve Detroiters in the process through community engagement, education and jobs. Their organization has plenty of volunteer opportunities and provides a great foot in the door to urban growing in our city. Learn more at their website!

Neighbors Building Brightmoor

Neighbors Building Brightmoor is a group of neighbors dedicated to mobilizing, equipping, and helping each other to create a beautiful, healthy and sustainable community for ourselves and our children. Their organization fills a unique place in the heart of their community. They seek to do everything “with” their neighbors, rather than “for” them. Learn more at their website!

Drew Farm- Detroit Public Schools

Drew Farm is a 2.5 acre food production farm located at Drew Transition Center, a Detroit Public School serving 18-26-year-olds with cognitive and physical special needs. The farm provides work training skills to Drew students and over 20,000 pounds of organically grown produce to DPS school cafeterias each year. In addition to providing fresh fruits and vegetables for the cafeteria, Drew Farm also serves as a site for education and parent engagement programming through STEAM field trips, family farm days, and SNAP/Double-Up certified farm stands. Learn more at their website!
